Brothers Michael and Jay Ashton approached this double record â€" a limited edition featuring five 12â€"inch singles â€" with a much larger audience in mind. The former dense sound has been expanded and the Astons‘ moody, sometimes tuneless vocals have been replaced by brash, upbeat presentations more becoming of pop stars. And by the sound of things, that‘s what they aspire to. Partial credit for the facelift goes to producer Jimmy lovine, a master of texture. His work on ‘"Motion Of Love", with its intricate guitars and rich percussion, may become a Gene Loves Jezebel signature. And if lovine‘s track record holds true, it will make them stars. Rosie Flores Rosie Flores Reprise /WEA Born in San Antonio but raised in Southern California, singer Rosie Flores‘ debut reflects her geographic influences. The country strains of her Texas‘ roots are prevalent but she also shows a strong rockabilly sensibility as the result of time spent in a band called The Screamin‘ Sirens and touring as a solo act. Her choice of material reflects rock‘s current sociopolitical conscience. Eschewing the halfâ€"baked performances and soapbox stance of previous albums, she does moving renditions of Mark Knopfler‘s "Brothers In Arms", Peter Gabriel‘s "Biko", and U2‘s *"*MLK". And just to showcase a voice that‘s stronger than ever, she pulls out all the stops with a poignant working of the gospel staple "Let Us Break Bread Together‘. Recently fits in nicely with the minor folk revival that‘s going on. More significantly, however, it carries a cosmopolitan message which transcends categorization.
