That they continue to record is testament to the band‘s perseâ€" verance. Consider the plight of this New York band. If The Sound Of Music doesn‘t end the drought, nothing will. This is one of the best albums released this year, an instantly likeable gem that‘s chock full of memorable songs. Singer/guitarist Peter Holsapple confirms his status as one of pop‘s preeminent craftsman, a writer who borrows from many sources but like Squeeze‘s Difford and Tilbrook, injects enough hooks and twists to keep the music fresh. Even with much of the current focus on labelmates R.E.M. and the Vegasâ€"like posturing of David Bowie, music this good doesn‘t deserve to go unnoticed.
