The Waterloo netter turned a firstâ€"round loss in last year‘s Ontario underâ€"16 championship into a meaningful learning experience when he returned to the scene at Toronto‘s Kew Gardens last week and swept to five straight wins and the underâ€"16 championships. Straka capped off his terrific showing with a 6â€"3, 6â€"0 dismissal of Danny Brdakus of Stoney Creek in Saturday‘s championship match. â€" Another Waterloo upâ€"andâ€"comer, 15yearâ€"old Heather Coburn, came within one victory of duplicating Straka‘s feat. Coburn, however, was sidelined 7â€"5, 6â€"3 by Laura Randmaa in the single‘s final, and also finished doubles runnerâ€"up with Monica Mraz of Toronto to champions Randmaa and Suzie Italiano. UNINTERRUPTED SERVICE Expos skin Tomcats in rainâ€"shortened contest the minimum needed to have the game officially go into the books. Complicating things as the ineviâ€" table storm approached was the fact the midget tourney ran overtime, and Expos third inning at the plate, where they wheeled their order twice in a oneâ€"hour marathon. "It was a combination of their pitching not being very good and our guys hitting the ball well," ® , dance pairs from the Toronto area as well as professional star skaters will participate. The Precision Team will perform in two numbers, choreographed by Ottawa dancer, Kevin Cottam, and directed by former Canadian Men‘s Champion Brian Pockar of Calgary. Along with the excitement of this honor comes the concern of the Kâ€"W Skating Club with fundraising to send this team to Calgary as well as supporting their regular competitive season. The team will be urgently trying to attract sponsors to cover expenses such as flights, buses, local practice ice, ski suits, skate bags and outerwear. RECORD CLASS DELIVERY said Expo pilot Dan Young. ‘"We didn‘t hit the long ball but everyone in the lineup contributâ€" Don Oberle had three hits for the Expos, all singles. Bob Tayâ€" lor tripled and singled, winning pitcher Chris Rigby doubled and singled and John East poked two singles to lead the assault. Expos, who have played exâ€" tremely well in recent weeks, hope to continue that pace with a jamâ€"packed schedule this week to close out their schedule. Now 4â€"12 in league play, Expos played at home Tuesday to St. Thomas, are home Thursday to Stratford, play a doubleheader in Brantford Saturday and return to Bechtel weather permitting, in Gueiph Monday. weeks have been terrible (weather)," said Young.
