Fittingly, the first game‘s 6â€"5 final score was the same score of the final game in the 1972 eightâ€"game (winâ€"lossâ€"tie) record. Even though the former stars weren‘t allowed to bodycheck or take ;mhots because of rules governing oldtimer‘s y, Awrey was surprised with the calibre of hockey the teams displayed. *‘The pace was much more than I have ever experienced in oldtimer‘s hockey. You still were representing your country, and you still wanted to win, so you tried to play to the best of your ability in comparison to the shape you were in," he said. *‘That‘s why we went with eight defencemen, and I believe we went with five lines (instead of the usual six defencemen and four lines)."
