PAGE 18 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 22, 1987 The School, founded in 1925 as the College of Optometry of Ontario, joined the University of Waterloo in 1967. The union promised enriched research and teaching ... promises which the School‘s director, Dr. Jacob Sivak, feels have been most satisfactorily realized during the past two decades. The School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo will launch a fund drive later this spring, to expand its building. â€" The School‘s optometry clinic (where upper year students spend a good deal of their time) has become renowned across Canada. The clinic conducts about 26,000 eye examinations a year including work in the contact lens area, in binocular vision and in the ocular health Dr. Sivak says the number of facuity members has increased from four fullâ€"time and 19 partâ€"time members in 1967, to 17 fullâ€"time, plus seven special or "clinical" fullâ€"time, and 35 partâ€"time clinical associates today. The School of Optometry will launch its fund drive May 29, coinciding with spring convocation. There will be a luncheon for alumni on that day; later, Dr. Edward J. (Ted) Fisher, one of the four original fullâ€"time faculty members (the other three were Drs. C. W. Bobier, Walwyn Long and William Lyle) and the School‘s director during its first eight years at UW, will be made a "professor emeritus‘"‘ of the university.
