That‘s the word out of University of Waterioo Warriors‘ basketball camp, where life at, or near, the top continues despite the loss of five players with 20 years of intercollegiate experience. Warriors have reached the finals of all three tournaments so far this season, and in the last of the three in Montreal they bowed out to the host McGill Redmen by a 102â€"94 score in double overâ€" time. Peter Savich and sevenâ€"foot Randy Norris head the list of players who are not returning and the club also has to replace Willie Boggild, Harry Van Drunen and Marcel Naus. But so far Warriors have an overall 7â€"3 wonâ€"lost record and returning forward Paul Boyce has been an allâ€"star in all three tournaments. ‘"‘Despite turning over five veterans we feel confident we have a good team," said Warriors coach Don McCrae. Rob Froese, another tournament allâ€"star in Montreal, is another of Warriors‘ veteran players along with Tom Schneider. _ _ 0 Warriors have Jerry Nolfi, a guard with leadership qualities, back from last year along with Craig Beda. They have size up front with 6â€"9 Jamie McNeill and 6â€"5 John Bilawey. Leading rookie for Warriors is John Clark, who comes from Glenview Park Panthers. Clark, a ï¬o\° « «G . \\\w C ’5?;@ O@ 3 $y3 s Basketball Warriors still have some bite forward, won the Mike Moser award as the top player in Waterloo County high schools. Warriors are the host team in the Naismith tournament this weekend at UW and they meet Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in the opening game Friday night before a homecoming crowd. ‘‘We like to stay away from our own conferâ€" ence," McCrae said of scheduling difficulties which have matched Warriors and Golden Hawks against each other on the opening day, "but some teams wanted to get here earlier or later and didn‘t want to play each other because they play each other all year." UW will be the scene of many other homecoming athletic activities over the weekend. Warriors‘ hockey team has home games Friday at 7: 30 and Sunday at 3: 30 and there will be an alumni, faculty and staff squash tournament beginning Friday and ending Sunday. Warriors‘ alumni basketball game will be played Saturday at 10 a.m. and at the pool the water polo alumni and swimming and diving alumni have activities planned from 10: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. The women‘s volleyball and basketball luncheon is set for noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Village One and the gathering of all athletic alumni takes place at 4 p.m. in the small gym, also on Saturday. The championship game of the Naismith tourâ€" nament takes place Sunday at 2 after the consolation final (10 a.m.) and runnerâ€"up game (noon).
