Cossu has studied ethnomusicology, recorded Indian music, played keyboards with MB groups, and been influenced by artists as diverse as Thelonius Monk and Professor Longhair. A smidgeon of these influences are illuminated on Reunion but for the most part, the song structures are true to the spirit of Windham Hill: entrancing melodies built around rudimentary improvisation, of which the resulting soundscapes fall some- where between the ambient approach of Brian Eno and lounge music. T-Bone Burnett, and Paul Camel - I would have expected something more. Unfortunately, Jones’s voice lacks the verve needed to complement the accompaniment and in return, the musicians don't show much interest. Now, where is that Carmen McRae record?
