If so, then Julie Redrup‘s new Waterâ€" loo company, Investment Simulations Inc., is something you should check into. Investment Simulations offers compuâ€" terized simulations of the actual process of trading on the stock market "so people can learn the mechanics of investing, not just the theory," without the personal financial risk explained company president Redrup. ‘"You can explain what a wrench is to someone, but until they get it in their hand they really don‘t know what it can do. That‘s the philosophy this is based on."‘ Redrup explained that clients begin with a hypothetical amount of money, $15,000 to $75,000, to build a portfolio of stocks currently trading on the stock exchange. They will then issue buy and sell instructions as they wish, thereby trading is based on daily closing prices of the exchange. Commission fees, interest payments and dividends will be reflected in their portfolio, just as in the real market. Clients receive a weekly activity summary and portfolio report comparing their performance to the TSE 300 composite index, as well as confirmation of trading within 24 hours. Redrup, a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University‘s school of business, moâ€" delled her service on a similar program offered by WLU for high school students. "I was manager of the student stock market game for two yearsâ€"while I was there a lot of people contacted me, who weren‘t in high school and said they‘d like to do something similar. I realized there was a good market out there." She left the university last year to establish her own business, which she launched in August. Initially a computer was required to participate in Investment Simulations programs, however Redrup has develâ€" oped a new telephone service for those without a microcomputer. Participants phone in their trading information and receive reports by electronic mail, delivered through the regular postal service.
