Richard O‘Brien Chronicle Staff Great minds think alike and that applies to hockey as well as anything else. So now that the winning combiâ€" nation of general manager Pete Brill and coach Gerry Harrigan are back with the Waterloo Siskins you can expect them to agree on a number of things from player evaluation to the style of hockey they want from the players they choose. "I think Gerry and 1 agree on the system employed which is bumping and grinding and workâ€" ing the boards and corners," said Brill. ‘"That was our style when we played so we‘ve carried it ‘"‘Generally we agree on everyâ€" thing and (assistant coach) John Reinhart has good input." Siskins opened training camp at University of Waterloo‘s Coâ€" lumbia Icefield over the weekend and have already signed a pair of talented young new players. Defencemen Mike Girardi of Sault Ste. Marie and Jamie Pegg of Flesherton are signed and both had a chance to show their ability when they attended the Ontario underâ€"17 midget camp put on by Wayne Gowing at the same rink in August. Chris Driscoll, a 14â€"yearâ€"old centre from Guelph, is unsigned but difficult to ignore. o ‘"*Driscoll‘s shown great skills so far," said Brill. ‘"He‘s one of those kids who always plays with his head up. He never looks down. His peripheral vision is excellent." dï¬iskins are expecting good ings from returning centre Greg Munroe and they expect Mike Gingerich, a left winger from the junior A Dixie Beeâ€" hives, to be one of their team leaders. Returning goalkeepers attendâ€" ing tryouts include John Davenâ€" port and Scott MacDonald. Wayne Barnard and Don Oberle are back on defence and other returnees battling for a position include centre Dean DeSilva and wingers Dominic Niro and Mike Barbeau. Training camp continues until Siskins open the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League season Look for Siskins to play a tough brand of hockey Summer hockey champs The Conestoga recreation cenâ€" tre Summer Adult Hockey League came to an end recently with the first and second place teams in each of three divisions playing off for championships in a oneâ€"game format after their 13â€"game season. In the recreation division, where teams play by oldtimers rules, Al‘s Cartage defeated Valâ€" halla Inn 6â€"3 after holding period leads of 1â€"0 and 4â€"1. The no body contact division was won by the Royals, who defeated the LSI Generals 54. Royals took an early lead and never lost it in a penaltyâ€"filled contest. Sportco took the championship in the full body contact division with a 107 win over Petro Canada. Sportco took an early 3â€"0 lead before Petro Canada came back to tie the game in the second period. Then Sportco went into another threeâ€"goal lead, only to have Petro Canada come within one again before two quick goals helped seal the victory on September 21, but Brill says they‘ll be keeping the door open for players trying to make the team.
