Six hundred contestants, representing 60 local businesses, meeting in headâ€"toâ€"head competition in The Corporate Challenge, a funâ€"filled fitness event designed to encourage people to adopt a healthier lifeâ€" style. It‘ll all take place this Sunday, Sept. 7, at Waterioo Park. Festivities will begin at 9. a.m. with an Olympicâ€"style parade of athletes and opening ceremoâ€" ny, and conlude at approximately 4 p.m. with an awards presentation to the victors. This is the third year of the Kâ€"W Corporate Challenge, which is sponsored by the Waterloo and Wednesday, September 3, 1986 Waterioo, Ontario . 25 cents right to become a yearly King Street fixture. So with "conclusive results" in hand and a list of at least 1,700 supporters who seem to agree, Shaw and husband Greg Dalton are preparing to approach Waâ€" terloo City Council once again this October to press for an Kitchener Chambers of Commerce. ‘"We know that this event permits employers and employees, white and blue collar workers, people who work at desks and people who work on the line to experience the pleasure of team play," said Alex Brown, chairman of the 1986 challenge at a press conference last Thursday. "It is good for morale within the work place and it is good for our business community generally." He stressed that the challenge‘s emphasis is on fun, not competition, ‘‘although some people and teams get very caught up in the competition,"" and events are designed to ‘"balance the talents of all." Spectators are invited to watch the competition, and the participating team with the most registered fans will receive a special Spirit of ‘86 award.
