If you‘ve never seen a human "U", you‘ll have the chance Saturday Sept. 13. That‘s the day when more than 500 people are expected to join in forming a giant "U" to kickâ€"off the 1986 United Way Campaign to raise $1,825,000 for the 34 participating agencies. â€" o _ The event will be held at halfâ€"time of the University of Waterloo Warriors vs Western University football match at Seagram Stadiâ€" ‘"Participants in the ‘U‘ will release heliumâ€"filled balloons in what promises to be a funâ€"filled, spectacular event," said Sonja Carney, 1986 Campaign Chairman of United Way. ‘"The public is invited to join in creating the °U‘ along with university students, United Way and agency volunteers." The $1,825,000 target for the 1986 Campaign, to be held Sept. 15 to Oct. 31, is the largest ever in the history of the local United Way. The goal represents a 9 perâ€"cent increase over the 1985 achievement of $1,675,000, and the money raised will be allocated to the 34 participating agencies. In previous years, agency allocations of funds were determined in advance of the campaign, based on expected campaign achievement. However, this year, allocations will be finalized following the campaign period. There are approximately 2,500 volunteers working to make the $1,825,000 target a reality. _ _ _ _ s _ 80 Following the official Kickâ€"off on September 13th, an Open House will be held at the United Way‘s new office at 607 King Street West, Suite #201, Kitchener.
