United Way executive director John Thompson gets help in packing from his new neighbor, Joyce Cruickshank of the Labor Participation and Union Counselling Program The joys of moving are nothing new to United Way, formerly Kâ€"W and Area Federated Appeal, which has worked out of four different offices in the past 10 years. During that time, Thompson noted, the organization‘s annual fundâ€"raising campaign has grown from having a $1 million goal to last year‘s target of approximately $2 million. ‘*And if our campaign has doubled, the involvement of our volunteers has quintupled," he said, adding that some 2,500 Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo residents will be a part of the 1986 drive. September. The M stands for moving, and that‘s what United Way will be doing July 29, moving from its current office at 118 King St. N., Waterloo, where it has been for five years, to new, larger and more efficient space at 607 King St. W., Kitchener. ‘"It‘s a move for efficiency and economy," said United Way executive director John Thompson. ‘"Our organization is growing, and we need more space;, we need more parking for our volunteers. What we‘re trying to do is make it as convenient as possible for the volunteers who work many hours for United Way." United Way will be sharing the secondâ€"storey office with two other organizations, the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Community Foundation and the Labor Participation and Union Counselling Program. Thompson said the arrangement will mean substantial cost savings for all three, as they will share a receptionist and meeting rooms. ‘"It‘s a big plus having the three offices coâ€"operate on the facilityâ€"we‘ll be sharing one phone bill, one receptionist and one meeting room. There‘ll be savings for each organization compared to if we had to do it on our own. Let‘s put it this way, for the money we‘re all getting much better facilities," said Thompson. M Day is rapidly approaching for the staff of Kâ€"W and Area United Way. Convenient move for United Way United Way will officially open its new offices with an open house in Chronicle Staft Three downâ€"one to go. That‘s the feeling in Waâ€" terloo‘s planning departâ€" ment this week after city council gave it‘s blessing to a third granny flat site Monday night. With three of four Waterâ€" loo‘s allocated units now accounted for, although a controversial Colonial Acres site is pending on an Ontario Municipal Board hearing, the city‘s planning departâ€" ment is anxiously trying to peddle the fourth. ‘‘We‘ve still got one unit available and there is really no interest being shown in it at all," said Waterloo planâ€" ner Greg Romanick last week.
