The 10â€"/member group, which specializes in madrigals of the 16th and 17th centuries then went on to become provincial finalists at the University of Western Ontario where they won the Richard W. Cooke Trophy in one of two provincial choir classes. That trip was also highlighted by a final concert appearance of the Kilmarnock group along with various soloists. Solo winners from the London competition are sent to the Vancouver for the national finals in Vancouver Aug. 22â€"28. Because of expense, the Madrigal Singers from Kilmarnock cannot attend, but are still in the competition for national honors via tape competition to be adjudicated at the same time as individual competitions. The Kilmarnock Madrigal Singers are under the direction of Catherine Robertson. Attending the national finals will be Waterloo contralto Rebecca Hass, 21, a vocal student at WLU who achieved the highest marks in recent time at the Kâ€"W Kiwanis competiâ€" tion.
