Eckersley joined Dominion Life in 1951 and was appointed assistant actuary in 1954. Three years later he was named group actuary and, in 1965, group executive. In 1970, Eckersley was appointed viceâ€"president and actuary, a role he fulfilled for 13 years, followed by promotion to his present position of senior viceâ€"president and actuary in 743â€"0256 the Twin Cities, including serving on the Board of Governors of Wilfrid Laurier University from 1975â€"80. Currently, he serves as director of the Kâ€"W Community Foundation and the Kâ€"W YMCA. In 1986 Acheson was appointed Honorary Campaign Chairman of the United Way of Kitchenerâ€"Waterâ€" loo and area. The â€"year past also saw Acheson assume the duties of Chairman of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association. Under his leaderâ€" ship the 110â€"member trade association addressed a host of consumer concerns, including the Federal and Provincial governments‘ proposals on pension legislation, and working with the Federalâ€"Provinâ€" cial task force established to study ways of improving disability coverage for Canadians.
