Aldermen Andrew Telegdi and and both wanted the area of conti investigated. Slomke said the problem has strongly advocated council go th Chronicle Staff Waterloo council admits there is a problem and is now toying with spending $25,000 to find a solution. The problem, of course, is parking in Uptown Waterloo. The parking problem was discussed by aldermen following Planning Director Tom Slomke‘s report to council on the Uptown Revitilization Program. In his report, Slomke listed the removal of employee parking on Waterloo Town Square, construction of additional onâ€"street and offâ€"street parking on Regina Street and a comprehensive parking study as challenges for the upcoming year. The $25,000 price tag for the study came out when Ald. Lynne Woolstencroft asked Slomke for an approximate price on such a venâ€" ture. Not all agreed the study is neccessary. ‘‘We should concentrate on removing employees from parking on the Town Square lot before doing a parking study," said Ald. Brian Turnbull. ‘ "I‘ve never been impressed by our efforts in that lot and I don‘t like the idea of bringing in a consultant with this problem staring us in the face." Business development director Gerry O‘Neill downplayed the entire problem . ‘‘Many businesses want to locate in the Uptown area and I‘ve never headrd of people thinking twice about it because of the parking," he said. § Aldermen Andrew Telegdi and Jim Erb voiced approval for a study and both wanted the area of controlled access for the Town Square lot investi¢ated The Kidney Foundation is always appreciative of volâ€" unteers help and many volâ€" unteers are needed particuâ€" larly at this time of the year, to coâ€"ordinate their annual ‘‘Many members of the community have responded to this rumor out of genuine concern for others," said Ann White, executive direcâ€" tor. The Region of Waterioo Chapter of the Kidney Founâ€" dation of Canada, has been inundated with requests for information on a promotion involving the tabs from soft drink cans, the rumor is that if enough pull tabs are collected, kidney patients can receive free dialysis treatments.
