Not that the dimimr tive Davenport is an advocate of goon hock. ey. Rather. he was Sis- kins' goalie Sunday night and the constant stream of ejections to opposing Kitchener Ranger B's players was helping him pm tect a shutout. Ranger Ws ended the game with just seven skaters to share the work load and Daverr port got his first shut- out as a Siskin in a 7-0 win. It was Siskins' 19th consecutive win in the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League. The night before. Sis- kins had beaten Lis- towel Cyclones 13-1 in a much tamer game. Maybe they were afraid there would be no hot water left if they waited for the end of the game to go to the showers, but Ranger Ws players took eight game misconducts and Siskins took five. In addition, B's coach Jim Jenks and trainer Rod Dunkel also received game misconducts. Jenks' game misconduct came after the final buzzer. But it was good for Davenport. who had less to worry about from Kitchener shooters. He faced just 19 shots throughout the game. “I could taste the shutout," said the ltr- year-old goalie. “but any shot could have gone in. I lust got lucky on some saves." It was only the sec- ond shutout ih Davett- port's short career as a goalie. Four years ago he took up playing goal after practicing at that position in the family backyard with his brother Art. Davenport was with Siskins briefly during playoff action last sea- son. Now he plays on a rotating basis with vet- eran Don Einwechter. “It (rotation) gives Donny a rest and it gives me a rest," said Davenport, who played for Waterloo juveniles last season. "So far we're both hot and at every prac- tice I learn something from Donny. The expe- rience is helping me a lot." Steve Aebersold and Dean Turgeon each scored twice against Kitchener while single goals went to Terry McCutcheon, Chris Archer and defence- man Scott Biggs. who returned to Siskins over the weekend.
