The script and actors were mediocre at best, but the music was the saving factor, because it was so ‘smashing‘. Steven Maclean‘s Star Struck is vying for this category with trendy vengeance, but instead joins the hapless calibre of Richard O‘Brien‘s celluloid epidemic The Rocky Horror Picture Elements of Rocky are particularly evident in Star Struck‘s chorusâ€"line sequences except the fact the locale is not a decrepit mansion but the turquoise arborite counter of the Harbour View Hotel and Tavern. _ The i)iw;ducer's aim is to make this Australian modern musical comedy (from the creator of My Brilliant Career) another Rock.y- inA _impacl. But ... this thirdâ€"rate effort can join the gre at cinematic annals of Divine‘s ‘stinking‘ Polyesâ€" ter, the extremely forgettable Stigwood nightâ€" mare Times Square, and British sweetheart Hazel O‘Connor‘s notâ€"soâ€"shattering Breaking Glass. J GENERAL 1. What‘s the first name of Paul McCartney‘s Star Struck and Breaking Glass are painfully similar in plot, with Jackie Mullens, a radical redhead and ultraâ€"bizarre teenage chantreuse with outrageous thriftshop garb. BOOKSTORE Jo Kennedy is mildly amusing in the title role, and squeaky, sexy, stylings at the Lizard Lounge are promising, with the right technical adjustments. But the sound mix in Star Struck is utterly atrocious and muffles Kennedy‘s vocals making her inaudible in all the movie‘s melodic pockets. Star Struck leaves you Thunder Struck by the plot but today‘s music experts and ‘trendies‘ will probably take this Cineplex preview in out of pure curiosity. Mental As Anything, an innovaâ€" tive force by modern standards does provide some of Star Struck‘s score, but that is not this flick‘s only high score. B Star Struck‘s soundtrack can incredulously be found on Oz records, which is a fine expletive for this inane Australian effort. Oz is the essence and Luciana Arrighi‘s outlandish sequined, silk, and taffeta touches are going to give Ballingers and Red Baron regulars a good run for their trendsetting money. Star Struck scores unlimited points for the ultimate in farâ€"fetched achievement. Jackie and her ludicrous 14â€"yearâ€"old brother, Angus, (Ross O‘Donovan, who resembles a pintâ€"size version of Reg Varney from the uproarious English comedy On the Buses), want to be famous, and will go to any lengths or heights to attain fame.
