With a cash donation of 250.000 NCR has become a corporate partner in the university's Institute for Computer Research OCR), which coordinates campus research in computers and micro-electronics. At a press conference last week to announce the agreement. NCR general manager Dr. David Hutton said, "This undertaking is a milestone for NCR. We take great satisfaction in making a long-term commitment to one of North America's foremost engineering and computer science universities. The partnership will further enhance the already strong ties between NCR development staff and university research personnel, he said. Mayor Marjorie Carroll called the UW/NCR agreement an important one which will have lasting. positive effects on the city. "Since UW is our largest employer and NCR is our largest industrial employer, it only seems appropriate that they join hands for future growth," she said. UW president Dr. Douglas Wright, said the university is extremely pleased to welcome NCR to the Institute. "We are delighted to have such an outstanding representative of the industry joining us. We look forward to this increased opportunity for transferring research results and technology to the private sector," he said.
