OSHAWA â€" Waterloo Team Sport Juniors may not have won the Ontario Junior Elimination softball tournament here last weekend, but they sure weren‘t the pushovers they were touted to be. Juniors, who won only their first game of the Interâ€"City Fastball League season last Tuesday 4â€"2 over Stratford and sport a 1â€"18 IFL mark, were a most respectable 2â€"2 in the eliminations, failling victim twice to Morrisburg, their tourney nemesis. ‘"‘The majority of the scores indicated how tight the competition was, there was a lot of extraâ€"inning games and some excellent clubs," commented Waterioo CHYM‘r field manager Gienn Moeser, who aided with the running of the Team Sport team here. â€""I think the Juniors did quite well, considering only four of them had been exposed to previous Junior elimination tournament experienice." o Team Sports didn‘t exactly get off on the right foot, dropping a 2â€"0 decision to Morrisburg Saturday morning in a game where the Morrisburg chucker tossed a noâ€"hitter against them. In fact, only Rob White with a walk reached base for the Team Sport club which sent only 22 batters to the plate in the sevenâ€"inning contest. Morrisburg got both their runs in the bottom of the sixth when with two out a quicklyâ€"sinking fly ball was misplayed in left field, scoring runners from second and third. Juniors had four errors in the contest. Ironically, Team Sports ran up against Morrisburg again Sunday morning on the loser‘s side, and again the Eastern Ontario club won, this time 1â€"0 on a first inning homer off MacDonald. Moeser said he noticed a definite difference in the Team Sport club once they got some exposure to the tourney . ‘"That second game against Morrisburg they (Juniors) wanted that pitcher bad. they were uptight the first time they saw him but really settled down. especially at the plate," Moeser said.
