The Waterloo location was es tablished in l929 with about 15 employees. "We have been grow- ing on the basis of 20 per cent plus per year," Eby said, and today the firm employs 140 here in town. La-Z-Boy Canada which spe- eiaiizes in the chair, market provides products to "close to 900 dealers right across Canada." the president explained. Another Waterloo winner is Piller Sausages Ltd., located at 443 Wismer St.. which recently won seven awards in an interna- tional competition held in Copen- hagen. Gohring and a handful of other franchise owners were singled out for quality performance and superior customer relations from among 320 shops in the Maaco chain. Future business people of Wa- terloo were also recently named winners. Maaco officials at head office based the awards "on the num- ber of complaints received," Gohring explained. And natural- ly Gohring's Waterloo operation would outshine hundreds of others. In two years of business. Gohring's shop has refinished over 2,000 cars _ without a complaint being registered. His secret? In his words, it all boils down to "performing an old-fashioned service ... value for money paid." Even so. the Kitchener resident said he was “tremendously sur- prised" to learn of the award since "we were the young ones in the organization. it usually takes five years before you achieve that kind of quality and customer satisfaction." Maaco is a full-service shop, providing "any kind of body work." In fact. "we have a plane in here right now." Gohring said. The competition was sponsored by the Financial Post and more than a dozen national Compa- nies.
