By Stan Clarke An offer of $10,000 for an Albert street corner property appraised at $24,991 is not high enâ€" ough for the city to sell, council decided Monday. The property, a small park at the intersection of Park and Caroline streets, has been owned by the city since 1975, and abuts the Silver Lake Manor progerty on Caroline owned by the Dominion Life Assuranâ€" ce Company. However, an _ apâ€" praiser has put a $24,991 price on the property, and the city‘s adminisâ€" tration committee reâ€" commended against the Dominion Life offer. Waterloo paid $30,000 for the lot in 1975. In a Feb. 17 letter, the comgan&noï¬ered the city $10,000 for the lot so it could be used for parkâ€" ing and additional rental At council on Monday, mayor Marjorie Carroll said she agrees with the committee‘s recommenâ€" dation, but alderman Doreen Thomas exâ€" pressed concern. Thomas said some sort of accomodation should be worked out with Doâ€" minion Life, since ""we need apartments deâ€" sperately in this city." Derek Eckersley, chairman of the board of the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Hospital (right) thanks Harold Walz, chairman of the Waterioo Lions Club‘s health and welfare commitâ€" tee for the club‘s recent donation of an $8,000 cribâ€"oâ€"gram while Dr. David Haldenby looks on. The cribâ€"oâ€"gram will be used by the hospital to test hearing in newborn children. City won‘t bite at low offer Alderman Mary Jane Mewhinney was not saâ€" tisfied with the adminisâ€" tration committee‘s conâ€" clusion. She said Waâ€" terloo should do everything possible to accomodate Dominion Life, and accept less than $24,991.
