Minister Safe riding program offered by college â€" Chronicle staff writer Conestoga College is tryâ€" ing to make Waterloo area roads safer for the many motorcycle riders who take to the street every spring. The college, in coâ€"operaâ€" tion with the Canada Safety Council and the Ontario Saâ€" fety League, is offering a motorcycle driver training course on weekends or week nights at the Waterloo campus, King St., Waterloo. According to a release isâ€" sued by the college, the «course is directed mainly to wards novice riders, but also includes some imporâ€" tant lessons for the more exâ€" perienced rider. ‘The program involves both theory and riding inâ€" struction in small groups under controlled conditions. All classes will be conductâ€" ed under the guidance and direction of a fully qualified instructor. Some theory is essential, said continuing education manager Wendy Smith, but the bulk of the instruction is actual riding. Students enrolling in the course should try to attend every class. Some of the primary topics covered will be baâ€" lancing, braking, cold startâ€" ing and stopping, clutch operation, correct gear changing, â€" signal â€" and shoulder checks, slow ridâ€" ing, emergency braking, neâ€" gotiating obstacles avoiding collisions and pattern ridâ€" ing. Students in the course must be over 18, and must sign a waiver of responâ€" sibility.
