Toronto, April 27 â€" The Ontario Government‘s farm tracâ€" tors are proving a greg‘l}success according to Mr. C.F. Gaiâ€" ley of the Department of Agriculture, who says that applicaâ€" tions for the machines are pouring into the department from the various district representatives. Mr. Bailey said that he had on hand requests for the services of a machine from the counties of Renfrew, Carleton, Hastings, Peterboro, Welâ€" land, Norfolk, Lambton, Essex, Kent, Halton and Waterloo. Tractors are now either operating in or are on the way to the counties of Carleton, Renfrew, Peterboro, Norfolk, Halton and Waterioo. With each machine is supplied a threeâ€"furrow plow and a double disc harrow. s Tractor vs. horse , _Officials of the department intend continuing the tractor service right up until the snow flies in the fall. At present, though all the work of the machines is on this year‘s crops. But beginning about August 1 the tractors will start work repairing the land for next year‘s crop. Accurate cost statistics are being kept on each machine and at the end of the season a bulletin is to be issued by the department announcing the cost of machine cultivation and comparing it with the old horseâ€"power apparatus. The deâ€" partment hopes to show the farmers that with a tractor, an acre of land can be plowed for $1.50 or under as compared with a cost of $2 per acre with horse plow and farm hand.
