Kitchener I, for one. hope she doesn‘t let these initial attacks disâ€" courage her from pursuing that course :; both the media and the taxpayers stand to benefit greatly through a better inâ€" sight into the school board system. It‘s not expected that everyone will agree with all of the comments the board chairman made during the seminar. however. what is important here is that we have a hardâ€" working chairman who is obviously trying to defrost the school board‘s stiff image and establish an openâ€"door policy with both the media and the public. There is no question that critical appraisal is an intrinstic quality of a good editorial. And the subscribers aren‘t getâ€" ting full value if an editor is deprived of that right. But the job also carries an implied responsbility to contribute to the impr?vement of conditions in the community, and performâ€" ing a selfâ€"indulgent "hatchet job"‘ on public officials, mereâ€" ly because they represent a popular target. is a violation of that responsibility. Despite the fact that neither newspaper was represented at the seminar. both proceeded to launch unnecessarily personal attacks on Mrs. Woolstencroft. Generally speaking, any organization that combines an atâ€" titude of bureaucratic secrecy and the ability to substantialâ€" ly hike the mill rate is going to get its share of black adjecâ€" tives. Howard Elliott John Ingram Publigher: Paul Winkler Editor: Terry James Editor‘s note We wish to apologize for omiting the results of the ladies events in our Jan. 24 article on the Heritage Loppet. It was purely an oversight resulting from a communications probâ€" lem. We agree with the cq@@iments in the letter to the editor (Feb 7 issue â€" Results left out) submitted by Eileen Casevy and Jill Cross. The results are included in this edition of the Chronicle However, I did proceed further and phoned the Kitchener snow removal department and a gentleman informed me that the only way to enforce this bylaw is to report each perâ€" son individually. This certainly would keep us busy and our hands out of our mittens while we wrote down the numbers of half the houses on each street. Actually, I had no intention of singling out each individual. I just wanted everyone to keep their sidewalks clean. This gentleman did not really see my problem, (our problem). He also informed me that King St. is always clear of snow because the merchants pay for the salt, sand, etc. and sugâ€" gested that if I go walking I should stick to King St. But hold on, this may be the beginning of a sidewalk report similar to the traffic reports. God help us if we have to stick to King St. Incidentally, this part of King St. is just the downâ€"town core. Goodâ€"luck when you "walk your block toâ€"day." Thank you Gerald A. Fisher for making your letter to the editor, regarding snow removal, brief. Several times I have attempted to write and it always seemed to end up being a small novel.
