Joseph Seagram is honored with historic plaque Joseph Emm Seagram, a local distiller, sportsman, and legislator, was honored Saturday in Waterloo with the unveiling of a national historic plaque in his name. The plaque was unveilâ€" ed by Frowde Seagram, the grandson of Joseph Emm Seagram. Joseph Seaâ€" gram was the founder of The â€" Seagram â€" Company Ltd. He died in 1919. The plaque was unveiled Saturday at the Adult Recâ€" reation Centre but will evenâ€" tually stand in front of the Seagram Company plant on Caroline St. It was comâ€" missioned by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada to commemorâ€" ate Mr. Seagram as a Canaâ€" dian of national significance. For generations, the name of Seagram has been synonyâ€" mous with Waterloo, for the company to which Joâ€" seph Emm Seagram gave his name has been an imâ€" portant part of this comâ€" munity for almost a cenâ€" tury. Born near Galt, Ontario, April 15, 1841, Joseph Seaâ€" gram attended Dr. Tassies Galt Grammar School and early in his career began developing a reputation as a star athlete. particularly in cricket, and an avid enâ€" thusiasm for horses.
