Throughout the course the participants are encour- aged to judge their own be- haviour. thoughts and emo- tions and accept responsibi- lity for their actions. They are made to realize that there is no need for them to feel obligated to offer reas- ons or excuses to justify any of their actions. Through assertiveness training, Miss Lenon tries to help people in her classes become more positive and confident in their interac- tions with others. She also made it clear that everyone has problems but everyone also has the ability to cope effectively with these prob- lems and they must learn to exercise this ability. - A reiistéred nurse and presently a student at Wit- frid Laurier University. Miss Lenon said that some people are very suc- cesstul in learning and us- ing what is known as their assertive rights. Others are not so successful because they don't get involved enough during the sessions. "It is not good enough to Just sit back and listen to what goes on." she said. "In this type of training you have to become involv: ed to gain any benefit from it."
