Foreman family enters mission service Farewell services were held at Wilmot Centre Misâ€" sionary â€" Church, Sunday, August 15, 1976 for Mr. and family who are entering Each year a number of young people have the opporâ€" tunity of participating in the activities of the Ontario Legislature, _ as _ pages. Groups of twenty pages serve for a period of six or seven weeks; and I beâ€" lieve that, for the most part, they find this an interesting and educational experience. Since the 1st March, 1971, girls as well as boys have been eligible to become pages, and applicants must have either Grade 7 or 8, with an average of over 80 percent. Students wishing to make application must write a personal letter to the Speaker of the House, the â€" Honourable Russeli D. Rowe. Room 193, Parliaâ€" ment â€" Buildings, Queen‘s Park, Toronto. The letter should give details of education and background. as well as the reason for the applicant‘s interest in serving in the Legislature. When the Speaker writes to the student, giving the general requirements for the position of Page, the applicant then makes a forâ€" mal application. For students who do not live in Toronto, it is necesâ€" sary to make arrangements for accommodation in the city, and this is the responâ€" sibility of the Page‘s parâ€" ents. In this connection, I would like to stress pages are not allowed to leave the Parliament Buildings until they go home each day . Pages receive an honorâ€" arium of $7.50 a day at present. and if it is necesâ€" sary to stay for a late sitâ€" ting of the Legislature, each * MaAYTAG _ N Dependability MAKES A MAYTAG REPAIRMAN TV & APPLIANCES 8 Wellington S$1 Strattord t _ 211 6433 _4 'fl,&g _ MPP REPORT ~ The Foreman Family on mission. Incidentally. the evening dutiés are arâ€" ranged in such a way that no page works late more than one evening a week. As the payments are made on the basis of a computerized record, each student must have a Social Insurance Number. The Legislative Assembly supplies the uniforms for the pages, and applicants are usually asked to come to Toronto for fittings apâ€" proximately two or three weeks ahead of their tour of duty. Pages must buy their own meals while workâ€" ing at the Legislature, and this is no great problem as there are a number of exâ€" cellent cafeterias in the Parliament Buildings. A qualified tutor is availâ€" able at the Legislature, and pages are given some five hours of tutoring each week. A page master and page mistress are in charge of the young people, and every effort is made to proâ€" vide â€" recreation in â€" the fresh air on a regular basis. There is also a Games Room available in the quarters allocated to the Pages. NOTE : ALL BOAT CLUB MEMBERS, REMEMBER THE CAMPOUT ANO PRACTICE ON > SATURDAY AUGUST 21 TRICK SKIING, BARE FOOT SKIING. In the period beâ€" tween January and June this year, some 980 groups participated in the organizâ€" ed tours â€" totalling apâ€" proximately 33,500 people. During the recess, the tour lasts approximately half an hour, but when the House is in session, a halfâ€"hour visit to the Legislature is includâ€" ed for a total of one hour. This gives people an opporâ€" tunity to witness the deâ€" bates which take place. and one of the most interesting also showed The couple pictured with their four children Debbie being held by Mr. Foreman.
