Around the first of June she received 3 phone call from Ottawa informing her that she had been chosen to be one of the Olrvmpic torch bearers. McArthur was a writer of considerable note in southwestern Ontario. His home of white oak and walnut logs, has been completely restored and furnished with pieces typical of the day. Five McArthur children slept in the upstairs. The home is typical of rural Ontario architecture in that era. She sent in her application and the next thing she knew she had been chosen. According to Simona, it was as simple as that. The Skarecky family will leave for Cornwall on Friâ€" day, July 16, so that Simona can meet with Olympic ofâ€" ficials at 4 a.m. on Saturday. She will run sometime beâ€" tween 6 a.m. and 9: 30 a. m. "Each runner runs one kilometre and they have their own torch," she said. ‘"I will light my torch from the person behind me." Both torches are to be lightâ€" ed at the same time and one will be carried to Montreal and one to Kingston where the yachting events take place. $ The torches are to arrive in both places at the same time. Because the trip to Kingston is longer, one torch will sleep on Mount Royal for a day so this can be achieved. * Simona is a grade 10 stuâ€" dent at Waterloo Collegiate and she is very active in sports. She placed first in the junior division on the balance beam for the Twin Cities and fourth in the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Associaâ€" tion (CWOSSA) this past year. Simona also takes part in track and freld, swimming,. volleyball and basketball. She is presently participatâ€" ing in a gymnastics day camp in Cambridge. Although Simona is not staying for the Olympics this weekend, she and her family have tickets for some of the events on July 24, 25 and 26. She is looking forâ€" ward to both her trips to the Olympics. Taking part in the Olymâ€" pics will be an experience she will never forget.
