Located in Waterloo By Terry James Frank Zoinai of Taraleigh Investments Ltd., in Waterâ€" loo, looked around his office and decided that he had a lot more wall space than he really needed. What could the empty walls be used for? An idea came to him. He could use the walls: to disâ€" play paintings and turn his office into an art gallery. The gallery would further art and culture in the comâ€" munity and give local artists a place to show their works. On Saturday, June 12. this thought became reality and the Taraleigh Gallery openâ€" ed its doors to the public. The gallery is situated in the office of Taraleigh Investâ€" ments Ltd.. 35 King Street North, Waterioo. "And that is how it all came about," said Letitia Dator as she finished exâ€" plaining the origin of the gallery. Miss Dator. an artist and ceramics teacher, is the art director for the new gallery. She has a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the Uniâ€" versity of Hawaii as well as a Masters degree in fine arts. ‘"We want to be able to show our local artists what other artists are doing as well."" she said. â€" The American Continentâ€" al Circus from Califorma is coming â€" to _ Waterloo _ on Thursday. â€" Julvy 15 Miss Dator explained that the gallery intends to try to feature a different artist every month. Miss Dator has often bumped into artists when she is looking for something else and she keeps their names on file. The gallery does not speâ€" cialize in any particular form of art. ‘"*A couple of people have suggested to me that we should specialize in someâ€" thing like wildlife but we do not intend to specialize in any area," said the art diâ€" rector. "In a way we are already specializing because we cater towards original Canadian art and Canadian signed graphics." Not many people have visited the gallery since its opening and Miss Dator beâ€" lieves this is probably due to a lack of extensive adâ€" vertising. If it rains the cireus will be held in Waterioo Arena. This month the gallery is featuring the works of two artists. David _ Charles Grainger, a local artist and teacher at the Doon School of Fine Arts, is showing five of his wildlife scenes.
