There are " parks and conservation areas within the Grand River Valley which provide a number of activities for the lov- ers of the 'outdoors: fishing. swimming, hiking. boating and picnicking. Elora Gorge located 12 miles northwest of Guelph and three miles west of Fergus is a 230-acre area on both sides of the Grand River. downstream from the village of Elora. The 70-foot gorge provides spectacu- lar scenic beauty and a wide variety of facilities are provided in the park includ- ing a th-acre swimming lake. Camping, picnicking facilities are provided as well as playing fields and nature trails. Apps Mill Conservation Area is located five miles west of Brantford, one conces- sion north of Highway 53 just off Rest Acres Road. It is situated in a beautiful valley on Whiteman Creek on the former site of Wil- liam Apps' Mill and Rest Acres Park. This is primarily a nature area although picnic tables and braziers are available for public use. The area is an excellent one for hiking and arrangements for a tour of the conservation area can be made through the Grand River Conservation Authority. Motorcycles are not allowed. Rockwood Conservation Area is located seven miles east of Guelph on Highway T. The area is well-known for the rock cliffs which outcrop along the Eramosa River. The KYLE. Dickso- Wilderness Area located south of Cambridge on Highway MA was created to provide a woodland where people can walk along trails in a natural setting. Specially constructed boardwalks travel over swamps, marsh, meadows and ponds to provide the hiker with a variety of flora and fauna to observe.
