The tests include standing long jump. timed relays and runs. speed sit ups. flexed arm _ hangs and shuttle runs. A national standard for age groups pits the youngsters against a norm instead of each other. Awards are given at the end of the school term. The three levels of _ fitness tbronze, silver and gold> must be obtained on at least four test items to achieve an award. If a child obtains a gold standâ€" ard on all six test items. "I think society desigâ€" nates what sports a girl will play and therefore boys tend to be channelled into the more demanding sports. The good thing about this program is that it is a valuâ€" able way of improving the fitness levels of all chilâ€" dren at a national â€"standâ€" ard." he said. .
