T. A.F. Brookes, President, welcomed sevâ€" eral new members to the committee and the Women‘s Association and introduced Dr. Brian Hanna, a Rheuâ€" matologist who has recentâ€" ly come to the Twin Cities. Dr. Hanna will be associatâ€" ed with the Kâ€"W and St. Mary‘s Hospitals, and conâ€" duct a private practise. Reports were presented that indicated a total of $39,046.71 was raised durâ€" ing 1975, which represented the allocation from Federâ€" ated Appeal, proceeds of inâ€" dependent campaigns in the towns and villages in Waterloo County, In Meâ€" moriam _ donations, _ and other gifts, and special fund raising projects. The Women‘s Association reported an active year of patient visitation; a picnic and a Christmas party for the patients; and the sale of hastiâ€"notes, as well as providing public informaâ€" tion at various _ malls throughout the Twin Cities during the year. It was announced that the Bluebird Ball which had been held annually for a number of years will not be held in 1976. Guest speaker was Ross Morrison, Executive Diâ€" rector, Ontario Division of the Society, who outlined future programs â€" planned by the Society, and who enâ€" couraged the volunteers to continue _ their _ efforts, stating that the need is still critical. _ Breakâ€"throughs are being made in the field of research, and it is exâ€" pected that the cause of arthritis, and hopefully a cure, will be found within the next decade, but funds for research are still most important; and the training of _ more specialists in rheumatic diseases, and continuing updating of inâ€" formation to family doctors is essential.
