The present Davis govâ€" emment â€" received â€" strong criticism Thursday evening in a speech made by Ed Good, MPP for Waterloo Mr. Good was speaking at the annual meeting of his .ing‘s liberal association d at the Conestoga Goilf and Country Club. The Speech from the Throne was thought by Mr. Good to contain nothing new and did not indicate the present Government was pushing forward. He said Twin City barbershopâ€" pers this week join over 30,000 other harmonizers throughout the U.S. and Canada in the celebration of Harmony Week. This week marks the 35th birthday of the Society for the Preservation and Enâ€" couragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America . Celebrating birthday one of the suggestions of the speech was to set up a permanent â€" environmental agency. This according to Mr. Good had already been decided two years Mr. Good also informed the gathering which conâ€" sisted of many rural repâ€" resentatives of a section of the Throne Speech which promised land use control. Such controls would preâ€" vent the development of good â€" farmland but . would retain farmland for agriâ€" cultural purposes. The stand of the Liberal party Mr. Good said, as stated in the Legislature by Liberal leader Robert Nixâ€" on. was that such controls are certainly essential but that farmers must not have to personally bear the fiâ€" nancial loss when developâ€" ment rights are taken away. Hope for the future of the provincial â€" liberal party was expressed by Mr. Good saying the recent liberal byâ€"election put the memâ€" bers of the party in "high Mr. Good also commented on the support he had been receiving from his asociâ€" ation. ‘"This is not a riding where the member carties the association. Here the association _ carries _ the member." spirits." ‘‘The two ridings were conservative strongholds," be said, ‘"and during both byâ€"elections the Conservâ€" ative Big Blue Machine was hard at work spending gobs of money â€" all to no avail. It is my feeling and the feeling of many memâ€" bers of the press who reguâ€" larly â€" analyze provincial politics, that these byâ€" elections indicate a wideâ€" spread disaffection with the present Government which will manifest itself with a vengeance at the time of the next provincial election. I predict it and am willing to bet on it." Mr. Quentin B. Hallman who was elected for his secâ€" ond term as president of the association also spoke out against provincial polâ€" Representatives from the surrounding ridings were also present at the meetâ€" ing as was Jim Breithupt, MPP for the Kitchener Mr. Hallman explained the province had gone in five years from a surplus of $20 million, to an annual deficit of $800 million . ‘"Recent announcements from Queen‘s Park indiâ€" cated a deficit of more than $600 million, would face Ontario‘ Mr. _ Hallman said, "It appears now, that the mismanagement of the Davis Government _ will place us in the red, by at least $800 million this year alone. riding FOR 3 GOOD REASONS SEE PAGE 17 Watertoo Chronicle, Wednesday, April 11, 1973 3 CUSTOM KITCHENS by PARIS & BELVEDERE Farm Building . ..
