The Origin Of The Siski ; By William Whiting Every so often someone makes m statement about television runâ€" ming out of movies. This happenâ€" ied not so long ago in the magaâ€" zine TV Guide. The Siskin Jrs. soon showed that they were a top calibre team and won numerous chamâ€" pionships, howver, during the war years almost all of the playâ€" ers enlisted in the Royal Canaâ€" dian Air Force. During the war also, Dr. Dotzert was Commandâ€" ing Officer, No. 80 squadron Air Cadets in the Kâ€"W area. # The teams of the Siskins group played in every arena of note from Oshawa to WindSor and Owen Sound to Niagara Falls. eoach he has known. Under the leadership of Bob Noble, the Waterloo Siskins have never been out of the playoffs As long as motion pictures are produced there will be no probâ€" lems. And even if they stopped making pictures, it would be many years before it would be noticed. Originally the name was used for what was then, the Siskins Hockey and Skating club who sponsored four minor hockey clubs. These were the Junior Siskins; the Juvenile Avros; the Sopwith Camels (Bantam) and the youngest group was called the Sopwith Pups. The Siskins also had the honor of being the nucleus of what is now the On tario Minor Hockey Association. Let‘s go back in time to any threeâ€"year period. For example, we‘ll take 1955 to 1958. Let‘s say that Station "A" purchased sevâ€" eral packages of motion pictures 'ade in the 30‘s and 40‘s. Now, "t‘s look at the present. NORTH ST. brought considerable recogniti (Contmued from page 1) been removed, a move which he felt was a maneuver to kill the oneâ€"way street idea. "I can not see", he stated, "why the mayor and Mr. Dutton (city engineer) are so determâ€" ined to ruin this fine street, are they selling the taxpayers of Waterloo short?" He also questioned the wisdom of the proposed location of the Kâ€"W Expressway sayingâ€"don‘t get me wrong, I am not opposed to a major road to handle trafâ€" fic from Waterloo, we need it, but I think it should have gone out in the country where it beâ€" longs. He suggested that a fourâ€" lane road like Grand Blvd. in Detroit would have been ideal for this area and could have been built for probably half the costs. On planning he felkt that if an area was zoned, then it should remain until the people in the area request otherwise. He cited the situation in Carter St. area as an example where the coun cil ignored the demands of the residents and relied on the deâ€" cision of an expert. What is the matter with our council, he quesâ€" tioned, that every decision that has to be made must be referred to an expert? These people have made an investment in the area and their rights must be proâ€" tected regardless of what the experts should say. I think the time has come for a change, he stated, "I am wilk ing to give it a try". PP EUVE EY . if on., w4 1 ; lete * ‘\\/ * j [ I R C esn im CC «\\ 8 h R | y LA .
