WHO WERE THE CLEAR GRITS? This was a name given in 1849 to a group within the Reform Party in the province of Canada who were critical of the administration‘s policy on a number of contentious questions. The origin of the term is attributed to David Christie, who wanted in the party "all sand and no dirt, clear grit all the way through." Members of this group eventâ€" ually supported George Brown and provided the nucleus of what came to be the Liberal Party. Theâ€"term Grit is still sometimes used to designate members of that party. In the 1850‘s and 1860‘s Canadian shipyards produced magnificent clipper ships, capable of loading 3600 tons deadweight. When he arrived there, she sang for him in the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel. Weeks later came a request for her to record the numbers. A few weeks later, a secret test was made by Logan. Cinâ€" ematographer â€" Shamroy, â€" and Mitzi, had 20th Centuryâ€"Fox Musical Director Alfred Newâ€" man conducting his entire orâ€" chestra for her test.
