PINE HILL lot recently made amendments to our Public School Act, that are temâ€" ! porarily in force for the 1983 and 1934 tax levies and which enacts | that municipal councile may during these years only grant 75 per cent ‘ of the original amount of the townâ€" ship grant to schools, which means ! that for a one room school or for the ‘ï¬mt teacher in others, the grant will be $450.00 and for the second or each teacher more than one engaged a grant of $300 will be made or schools, who had been receiving $600 will now be getting $450 and those 'who had grant of $1,000 will be getâ€" ting $750. Mr. Roberts also referred to the change in the section regardâ€" ing costs of rural pupils in High Schools, the responaibility of which now rests with the municipality and not the countyâ€"where the munici pality has a population of 4,000 or over and in connection therewith urged that 5th classes be established in rural schools where schooling costs were materially cheaper than | in High Schools. INSPECTOR ROBERTS PRAISES EXCELLENT RECORD LOCAL SCHOOL A well attended meeting of an educational nature was held in the Township hall here on Saturday afternoon, when the Woolwich Township Council, a large represenâ€" tation of the teachere in the Public Schools of the townships and rural trustee boards of every section gaâ€" thered to hear an interesting adâ€" dress by Mr. R. H. Roberts, inspecâ€" tor of Public Schools in North Waâ€" terloo. The reeve of the townehip, Mr. A. A. Snider, was the chairman and Mr.â€"Roberts opened his address by stating the purpose of the gathâ€" ering and during his talk spoke of the excellent record as to the school attendance in this county and the good work and effective system apâ€" plied by the school attendance offiâ€" cere in connection therewith. Mr. Roberts further spoke of the school buildings and surroundings which should be maintained in good conâ€" dition, endeavoring however, to reâ€" duce expenditures and eliminating all absolutely unnecessary expenses as by these means only can taxation be reduced. The epeaker at some length outâ€" lined the effect on school financing The speaker finally spoke of the high standard of the eystem of eduâ€" cation which is in use in the County Schools of toâ€"day and brought about by the untiring and efficient work of the teachers engaged in this inâ€" spectorate, which methods are classiâ€" fled by men standing high in the ranks of education, as being ideal The inspector answered quite a number of questions put to him by teachere and trustees, which added greatly to the value of the address which in itself was very interesting being on a very important subject matter.
