In conversation with the local postmistress, Miss Elmina Steinberg, with reference to Christmas parcels and mail some valuable information was gained. !t has been stated that city mail carriers will be given a holiday on Christmas day but to date no word has been received regarding a holiday for the rural carrieys. There has been some agitation to have a holidey for them also but at this time no word has been received but hopes are still held that their reâ€" quests may be granted. The local postmistress, Mise Steinberg menâ€" tioned that mauy people leave mail~ ing until about a haif hour before closing of the mail. These parcels have to be weighed and packed in the mail bags and when left till near the closing of the mail proper handâ€" ling cannot be given. The parcels if mailed early in the day instead of waiting until the last hour can be given epecial care and are assured of arriving at their destination in good order. Better care in addressing and tying parcels could also be shown as Miss Steinberg stated many parcels were brought poorly addreseed and tied. All Christmas parcels addressâ€" ed to the U.S. do not go duty free as this is left entirely to the discre tion of the U.S. custom officials. Parâ€" cels for the States are examined at the border and in order that there be no delay in parcels reaching their destination â€" before Christmas â€" it would be wise to mail them at once.
