He had been down town the day before and called at the collector's otrtce and paid his taxes tor the year. To a number of lriends he met in the street he remarked that m was tooling re- markably well-better than tor some time. Mr. Anderson, sr., was one of the patriots of the rebellion ot 37, under William Lyon Mackenzie. lie was shot and killed by a; prisoner whom he was placed in charge oi during those troublesome times. Mr. Anderson was married " years ago in Tecumseh to Sarah Reid, 'who predeceased him 33 years ago. About ten years alter he, with his wife and small family, name back into the Queen's Bush, taklng up a bush lot in Wallace on the town line east in the year 1850. He lived there tor 25 years, then went to Listowel, where be located on the D. D. Campbell farm and afterwards on the Barber farm, where Mrs. Anderson died. He afterwards bought a farm on the third. concession oi Elma, where he lived until he retired into Listowel. His family consisted ot two daugh- ters and three sons, of whom all are living except the second daughter. The other daughter is married and living in Michigan. The oldest son, James, and the youngest son, Wil- liam Henry, are farmers, also living in Michigan; the second son, Chas. was for years manager at the Brett- haupt Leather Co. in Listowel, and is now with the firm at the head alike in Berlin. Mr. Anderson was mar- ried a second time in 1878 to Mrs, Cowan who survives him. She also is well up in years and in tailing health.
