Mr. Braun moved in amendment that no action be taken in the matter, as heâ€"cow‘d not understaud why & Mayor shoulâ€"‘ receive remuneration for uis services, while the Chairmen of Committees, and _ patticularly the Board of Works, have to give ih:ir services without any salary attached. He bas sapent day sfter day lookin. after the interests of the town aud he did not ask forany remuneration. Ald. Doerr seconded the amendment. Ald. E. Bricker said that the Board of Works have a man employed to look after the roads and the work, and it was unnecessary for the Chairman of the Board of Works to give up so much of his time, if the man employed by the Board of Works was doing his duty. Mr. Bricker also agreed that any church, social or benevolent society in search of subscriptions alâ€" most invariably goes to the Mayor to head the list, and a fat sum is generally expected. Mayors cf previous years have been out of pocket after vacating the chair and this should not be. The Mayor‘s work is double what it was ten years ago when the $200 salary was fixed, and he thought $400 was not too much for the pusition. .
