â€" A Watch for Christmas Mr. W. V. Uttley, managing director of the Publishing Co. swore that in _Fébruary Mr. Clark promised to pay for services rendered and offered $200 of stock in script which witness refused. saying any payments must be in cash. He had receipted the two amounts reâ€" ceived on the account and Clark had pot objected to the account. Clark‘s cheques has been signed by himself &emnally and he had written letters the same way though on letter heads of his company. Division Court was held in the Court House Monday. A case which excited a good deal of interest was that of the German Printing and Publishing Co. vs. J. 8. Clark viceâ€"president of the Port Doverâ€"Goderich R‘y Co. The Comâ€" pany‘s account was originally $252 for printing, advertising. editorial support. and special and general reports in the Newsâ€"Record and Deutsche Zeitung. On this $100 had been paidâ€"$50 in June and $50 in July last. The town held Clark‘s cheque for $1000 and when about to return it to him were garnisheed by the Publishing Co. for $100, they abandoning all above $100 in order to sue in Division Court. The case occupied nearly all forenoon. _ Mr. J. 8. Clark admitted having promised to pay but stated no exact amount and it was to be only after the road was built. He was directly conâ€" tradicted on this point by the plaintifi who said it was to be after the byâ€"law was passed. In giving judgement his Honor conâ€" sidered the fact] that the R‘y Co. had made two payments on the account without objecting to it. They had reâ€" ceived a large amount of work and had promised to pay. He held Mr..Clark, ;ei;ofiilly, not liable but gave judgâ€" ment against the R‘y Co. for full claim with costs. â€" The further question then arose as to whether the guarnisheed amount was Mr. Clark‘s money or the R‘y Co‘s. ADDRESS TO YOUNG WOMEN Following up the sermon to young nren, delivered on Sunday Noy 25th, Rev Dr Williamson preached to young women on Sunday evening to one of the largest congregations which has ever erowded into the Methodist church. The preacher began by saying: ‘There is a great responsibility on young women. >~Tell me what kind of young women there are in a community and I will tell what kind of men are there. â€" The general character of the young women of a community decides its future socially, morally, and reâ€" ligiously. If all young women did what they could to stamp out the vices of young men there would be a comâ€" Elom revolution among them. The ighest ambition of a young woman should not be to excell for favor‘s sake, «‘for favor is deceitful," nor should it be to follow the follies of fashion, beâ€" cause "beauty is vain." To follow these fashions are both absurd and wicked."~ He also spoke very strongly against the use of paint and powder and of desiring to be a society girl. "Of all things disgusting to me the halfâ€"dressed society girl is one of the worst" he said, and added that if any thought he spoke too strongly they could ask his pardon and he would . forgive them. He urged independence, but not presumption. _ "Be able to win your way in the world without marâ€" riage being a necesrity." In concludâ€" ing he advised the young women to be natural, to be themselves always. Galt young Liberals have formed a elub. Mr. A. R.
