Picnic.â€"About a dozen families of tho village held a picnic on Sunday in a neighboring bush. _ A carriage load from Wellesiey was down and joined the group. PrASING MItt BURNT.â€"â€"â€"On Monâ€" day morning at about 10:30 word was received here that the planing mill of Mr. Levi Bowman, living between here and Heideiberg was on fire. Several from bere went to their assistance but arrived almost too late as the building was too far gone to save much. The fire is believed to have started in the dry kilns, and as the whole structure was of frame, the flames made conâ€" siderable headway and despite: the united efforts of the people the buildâ€" ing was laid low in a very short time. The blow is a severe one to Mr. Bowâ€" \ man as we understand he had all his capital invested there and besides be carried no insurance. The loss will amount to about $2,000. There was a considerable amount of heading stored around the outside but it wu‘ not damaged. FooTBALL. â€" Our senior football team went to Waterloo last Friday evening and trimmed the Waterloo boys by the score of 1â€"0. On arriving at the park our boys found that the Waterico boys were as yet not quite ready. They were looking for some more Berlin players. ‘They had Duâ€" mwart, the centre halfâ€"back of the Jr. Rangers of Berlin on and were looking for some more. It was rather late when the game was started and St. Jacobs scored in the first half. Wa,t-‘ erlo tried hard to tie the score but they could not. They claimed a goa.l‘ after time was called but the referee awarded the decision to St. Jacobs. Score 1â€"0. ‘The Waterloo people who saw the game admit themselves that time was called, but a few of their players, sooner than see themselves defeated by St. Jacobs when they had intended to do great things, tried to count a goal by unfair means. If they want another game and guarantce our expenses our boys will play them again, bnt they can deem themselves lucky if they do not have to suffer a much worse defeat.
