TUNE IN FOR THE BELLS OF BETHLEHEM CHRISTMAS EVE Reeve Hunter thanked Council for the vote of appreciation. <â€" He stated he found there was a lot to learn at County Council and was going to stand next year. _ He was sorry the Mayor was retiring, and hoped _ the incoming mayor would take as much interest in the town‘s affairs, Both Council and workmen, he thought, had tried to be fair in reliof work. The Mayor mentioned he had found H. D. Scott to be an excellent official as constable and hoped next year‘s Council would retain him. Mayor Kress thanked all for the wonderful _ coâ€"operation g‘ven him this year and passed the bouquets back. He had a heavy load the past year, acting as J. P. was not the nicest of jobs, but a permanent J. P. would be appointed at first of next year. He touched on relieft underâ€" taken and, announced, owing to busâ€" iness interests demanding moreâ€" atâ€" textion, he would not be a Mayoralâ€" ty canaidate for a second term. Coun. McNally believed they * had had a successful year and liked the work, but would retire next year, as he felt he could not serveas well as others, when a liftle dull of hearing. A vote of appreciation to Mayor Kress ang Reeve Hunter, by Couns. Macionald and McNally, for their active services in the past year, was put by Coun. Duffield and heartily carried. Coun. Stoneouse also spoke to the motion, pointing cut the time and interest they had taken on the town‘s behalf, _ Coun. Duffield stated it to have been a harmonious year, and a help to this was that Mayor and Reeve consulted the Council on all matfers. A mction by Coun. Duffield, that an honorarium of $50 be granted to Clerk B. .H. Willis for his extra serâ€" vices as Relief Officer Curing the year, was unanimously carried. Mr. Duffield pointed out that much extra work had beon entailed and that reâ€" lief had been satisfactorily and ecâ€" om{cally dispensed. The Clerk thankâ€" ed the Council for the recognition, and fdr the courtesy shown him, when "green on the job" and apâ€" preciated@ the‘r kindness. Three local medicos, Drs. Smith, Jamieson and Burnett, agdressed the Council re securing a better underâ€" standing as to payment for indigents in hospital. The Council authorizec? the Clerkâ€" to draft out a form, which will be supplied the doctors, to fill out for any such patients they send there. town. This necessitates the purâ€" chase of an acre or two of land, and quite a fill to construct new â€"roadâ€" way, and is being undertaken as reâ€" ef work in conjunction with the Dept. of Highways. f Durham Council held‘ their final session of the year Friday evening, with nc important business under d scussion.
