Now, this resolution of the directorg to move the immense plant to the rocky shores of the great river is the best thing that ever hngpened. 1t has brought the sluggish shareholders and editors of Durham to their feet, the slumbering giant has been aroused. But to give credit to whom credit is due I must say that these directors are men of nerve or men of doubtful integrity. If they meant to depreciate the value or the stocks, they shot beside the mark or did not see it at all, and if they realâ€" ly meant to move the plant it was an immense blunderbus. Now Sir. leaving rumoursaside I would beg to make a suggestion or two at a venture, which if found not to be of any use will, at least I think, be ‘harmless. One is for the cement committee with the doctor to knock at the court of the King‘s Beuch for a writ of mandamus to stay the motion of moving that plant until the accounts of the company and tha actions of the directors be thoroughâ€" ly examined, that we may see why we havye debts and not dividends. ~ The other suggestion is to ask the governâ€" ment to send down an expert auditor with powerto make the foregoing inâ€" vestigation from the beginning to the present time. Surely the Government will not refuse, â€" Has not Sir Wilfred the same authority in Canada to stay proceedings or suspend the powers of men or corporation as Gladstone had in Ireland when he suspended the colleetâ€" ing of rents by the landlords until cerâ€" tain matters were adjusted. If wrong is doing at the present time why not stop it if possible, hy a writ of mandaâ€" mus and if wrong has been dong and doing up to the present, why not have an: authoritative and thorough investiâ€" gation, and put the saddle on the right horse. Yours respectfully, Credit Auction Sale of FARM STOCK & IMPLEMENTsS. Miss Clara Seigner, of Toronto, spent over Christmas at home. Mr Roy Gordon returned from the West Tuesday evening after a fow years‘ absence, he having a large jJewâ€" elery business in Weyburn, Sask. Rev. Mr Parqubarson was in Draytor Tuesday on Presbytery business. Dear Sir,â€"I1 was much pleased vwith your editorial and Mr Cochrane‘s onenâ€" ing letter on the cement trouble. I had intended for some time back to write suggesting that an investigation be called for to show good reason why we are not receiving any dividends. We received so little information through the print or from any other source. even that deputation that deputation that put on its spectacles and went down some time ago, came nack as it went and we were still in the dark, We had rumours upon rum(curs about watered atocks etc., about 250 thousand of such, 200 of which Cowham the Great kept for himself, dividing the 50 hetween four associates to help carry out the plan. And again there was a rumour of eâ€" normous salaries that had to be paid to certain expert men, who would not work for any less and at which the sharebolders kicked but the project was imposing ann the profits promlsed to he so great that the old saying " Never venture, never win, " carried the day and the work went on. _ But this was all rumour, a particle of this never apâ€" peared in print or if it did it must have miesed myglasses,. Again‘there was a ruâ€" mour of a nefaricus coal deal, the buyâ€" ing up of an enormous quantity, far more than necessary and at famine price,. the buyer and the seller going snooks over the surplus, this coal busiâ€" ness was so so fertile in illicit tendencies. Miss Margaret Crawford spent the holidays at her howe heve. To the Editor of the Durham ReEvIrwâ€" Dr. Culbertson, of Meaford, aPent Xmais with his mother Mrs Scott; reâ€" turning home on Tuesday, accompanied by Mrs Culbertson and children who guve spent a week or two with friends ere. Dr Park of Hamilton, visited his mother and sister and other frizsnds here oyer the week end. [ xIETT 1e n Eoo R. Lzecat®. An expression in a letter of Mr Robt.
