Last year, more than 100 adults and children participated in the clean-up to removed "all sorts of material that accumulated in the parks and ravines over the winter," says clean-up organiz er Nick Markettos, vice-president of ROAR. "Events like these teach young peo ple about protecting our natural envi ronment and help all of us appreciate the beauty of our parks, ravines and open spaces in our community," said Markettos Participants can sign-up and pick up plastic bags and gloves at the River Oaks Recreation Centre between 8 and 10 a.m. The bags and gloves will be donated by Oakville Parks and Recreation. Volunteers may also bring their own bags and gloves. Those arriv ing after 10 a.m. can go directly to Munn's Creek Park, or a ravine or park near their homes. Full bags can be placed at the side of the road by the ravines, to be picked up by town staff. For information, call Nick Markettos, 338-3654; Pierre Girouard, 337-3692; Greg Stewart, 842-3610; or June Oliver, 257-4216. ROAR's clean-up will be part of a larger effort, the Earth Week Clean-Up, organized annually by the Oakville Community for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights.
