IZ Team photo deadline is fast approaching This coming week is the last week for submissions for this month's Oakville Beaver special team photo edition. Response has been great, as usual. Hockey, of course, forms the bulk of our submissions but we have plenty of other areas covered as well, including basketball, volleyball, baseball, gym nastics and cheerleading. Photos should be good quality with all the faces showing (please, no pho tos with the hockey helmets still on). Include the names of all the people in the photo, back row to front row, left to right. And please do include a page or two listing the team's highlights and accomplishments over the past season. Photos can be returned (please drop by and pick them up). Sports Scene The seventh annual Al Nicholls Memorial Track and Field Meet will be held at Oakville Trafalgar High School this Saturday (April 24th). The meet, organized by Athletiques International Track and Field Club, will offer a variety of track and field events as well as relays for U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14. Anyone interested in gaining more info about the meet or coming out to a club practice should phone Bruce Burton at 827-8725. □ □ □ □ The Lakeshore Football Officials Association is looking for people interested in officiating youth and adult touch football from May to October. Contact Peter Moore at 335-2626. A certification clinic will be held at Assumption High School, Woodward Ave. in Burlington, this Saturday (April 24). □ □ □ □ The ice has melted and the kayakers and canoers from the Burloak Canoe Club are out on Sixteen Mile Creek in full force. The senior high performance ath letes are preparing for their first national team trials in Montreal in the beginning of May. The senior and junior high performance athletes will be traveling to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to compete in national trials at the beginning of June. All members of the Burloak Canoe Club will soon be on the water training for a season packed with fun and competition leading up to the Canadian champi onships in August. Burloak has won ________________________ this championship for the last two years. The club caters to all abilities and ages: the elementary group (8-14); high performance devel opment and crew (15 years and older); and masters (25 and older). The Burloak Canoe Club will be holding an open house and regis tration for their spring and sum m er programs on Sunday, April 25 and Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m.-noon. Come down to the clubhouse on Navy Street and tour the facili ty and see first hand, national and Ontario level paddlers training on the water. But don't be intimi dated. While the club has a stable of international athletes like 19% Atlanta Olympic veteran Gavin Maxwell and Canadian Sports Hall of Famer (and a 1984 Los Angeles gold medalist) Larry Cain, the club is equally home to a huge contin gent of grass roots pad dlers, particularly in the masters division where the camaraderie and social aspec ts as impor tant as the competitive aspect.
