Teen health important By Jessica TUm er When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see skinny or big? Nurse and pro­ fessional fitness trainer Cindy Turner says that some teenagers think if they are skinny, they are beautiful. To be skinny doesn't always mean that you are in shape, and can be very dangerous for your health. According to Turner, to be physically fit is the best thing you can do for your health as a teenager. Fit means that you are in shape and healthy. Being fit is great for your self-esteem and prepares you for many challenges in life physically and mentally. Turner says a great way to get in shape is to play sports like soccer and gymnastics. Sports provide physical training, team spirit, mental focus and lots of fun. They teach you to work towards accomplishing your goals, challenging your body and boosting your confidence with the help of your team mates. As a teenager, there are many challenges to face and being fit helps you meet them in a positive way. Turner says look at your self in the mirror and see a person to be proud of. Parents Dawn Harper and Nancy Jarnick have dif­ ferent opinions on the subject. Harper stated, "Uniforms are a very good idea. Some kids can't afford designer jeans and have to shop at inexpensive stores. Also U niform s a t school cause controversy everyone will get to show off their personalities instead of their $80 pants. I think they are a good idea, but they have to be at a reasonable price. Kids need self-esteem and they are not going to have much if they get judged for what 3they wear." Jarnick's main point was that uniforms cost too much money.
