Wednesday March 17, 1999A8 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Residents say issues still unresolved (Continued from page 1) Home Depot would also operate a sea sonal garden centre com ponent and here too, Kauffman said he is w illing to make concessions. They will build a wall around the cen tre to cut off any viewing concerns but the spokesman said there is an issue with the interpretation of the word 'enclosure'. "We would leave the area open to the sky, but it would be surrounded by walls so is that really enclosed?" Kauffman won ders. "It seems to me the town wants to let the OMB do their planning for them, but I 'd rather work out the issues by working and talking with the Town," he said. M eanwhile, as Home Depot officials decide on their next move, two area resi dents are looking for support o f a petition to block the deal from going through. Renee Sandelow sky and Patrick Heffernan believe there are still outstand ing noise, traffic and safety issues for resi dents. Among their issues: -- deliveries could be made 24-hours a day with 6-8 truck deliveries every hour beginning at 5 a.m. -- Old Abbey Lane could become an alternate route for residents seeking to avoid North Service Road congestion and Abbey Lane School is located there -- St. M atthew 's Elementary School is within 500 metres of Fourth Line and North Service Road and they're concerned about children's safety -- three other streets in proximity to the site will be adversely affected by increased traffic, noise and lighting -- other areas will be affected including the Dorval exit ramp off the QEW, the QEW itself, Third and Fourth Lines south of the QEW, Speers Road, Upper M iddle Road, West Oak Trails and other roads leading to the store will become heavily congested No date has yet been set for the OMB hearing but they usually take from 3-4 months from the date of filing.
