54 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER June 12.1974 Man acquitted of drug charges MILTON -- A county court jury has acquitted a 29-year-old Oakville man of possessing 500 hits of the drug MDA for the purpose of trafficking. After more than six hours of deliberation, the jury returned a not guilty verdict on the charge facing Dennis Lauzon of Queen Mary Dr. Lauzon was jointly charged with another Oakville man late last J u n e a f t e r fou r p la inc lo thes pol ice officers found the drugs under the front seat of Lauzon's car. Thomas Reader, of Sovereign St., told the jury he had already served several months in jail after pleading guilty to the charge and that Lauzon was not aware the drugs were in the car that evening. T he d e f e n d e n t , testifying in his own defence, told the court he had had lunch at a downtown hotel and was about to leave on a trip to Windsor when he met- Reader, an acquaintance for several years. " He (Reader) said he was going east . . . and asked me to give him a lift up to Highway 401," said Lauzon. He did not know, he said, that his friend was carrying the drugs with him. Baha'i Conference Eight members of the O a k v i l l e B a h a ' i community were in attendance recently as the Baha'i Faith held its W e s t e r n O n t a r i o Conference at McMaster University in Hamilton. The locals could not get untracked in the first half and faced a 3-0 defecit going into the second period. He explained the $450 cash found in his wallet by police was from a $200 loan from his mother and $166 f r o m an unemployment insurance cheque he had just cashed. Five hours after the jury adjourned to debate the ir verdict , they r e t u r n e d to th e courtroom undecided.
