TOWARF comes to the rescue Two P o r t Credi t teenagers, pulled from the icy waters of Lake Ontario last week, owe their lives to the curiosity of a Town of O akv ille^ Water Air and Rescue™ Force crew. Captain Art Bridge and Henry P a in e were pat rol ling near St. Lawrence Cement Ltd's, dock about 8 p.m. when they noticed a new freighter tied to the next pier. " We went to look at her purely out of interest," explained Bridge, but when they got close, the TOWARF members saw two people splashing around in the water about two or three feet from the stern of the ship. A line and ladder were down from the freighter, said Bridge and the crew seemed to be waving the rescue boat away but after a few minutes Bridge decided to move in. " There were two teenagers, a boy and a girl about 18 years, trying to salvage a capsized canoe." The couple had been in the water for more than five minutes when the TOWARF boat arrived and su rv iv a l t ime c o n s i d e r i n g th e temperature of the water would have been no more t h a n 20 m i n u t e s , estimated Bridge. H al ton M useum F estival June 16 There'll be something for everyone when the Halton Regional Museum holds its fifth Annual Summer Festival on the afternoon of Sunday, June 16. Music lovers can listen to the sounds of the Milton Girls Pipe Band, the Oakville Citizens Band, the Georgetown Legion Pipe Band, and Georgetown organist Paul Barber, who will be providing background music as pretty girls in period costumes serve tea. Those of a more practical bent will be able to watch the d e m o n s t r a t i o n s of weaving, spinning, and methods of dyeing wool wi th n a t u r a l dyes obtained from area plants and weeds. J e a n P o t t e r C l a r k s o n w M demonstrate the weaving of assumption sashes, a Canadian Indian custom. Theatre-lovers will delight to the Oakville Youtheatre, who will be on hand to entertain both old and young. At the end of the day, some lucky person will go home with an original pine tree quilt, which is being awarded in a draw.
