Southam Press Limited said Carlson will take over the new post July 1 on the retirement of M i c h a e l B a r k w a y , publisher since 1962. Carlson has been with Ford for 15 years, the last eight as vice-president and secretary. An honors history g r a dua t e f r om the University of Alberta. In Edmonton, Carlson has worked in radio and news writing since 1940. He was assistant city editor of the Toronto Star in 1943, financial editor of the Vancouver Sun in 1946 and managing editor of the Vancouver Herald in 1949 to 1951. Carlson joined Ford as director of public relations in 1959. A member of the advisory committee of Scarborough Community College and of the Canadian Association of University Development Carlson is also a member of the Oakville Chamber of Co mme r ce , the National Press Club and the Canadian Public Relations Society.
